After the mother kills her father in self-defense, poor 7-year-old Adrian is forced to spend the summer with her grandparent’s house in the unassuming Traveler’s Creek.
Not even the horror of having to kill her husband can stop Lina. Lina continues to focus on her business, a well-renowned wellness star and tours the country promoting her new yoga videos. Adrian, meanwhile, makes friends with her neighbours: Maya and Raylan.
The horrible incident fades into the past and life gradually settles down for Adrian and Lina. Adrian follows in her mother’s footsteps and shows interest in wellness, making her own yoga video for school. She decides to start her own fitness company at only seventeen. The limelight is no place of peace. Adrian soon starts getting threatening poems from an anonymous author. These poems become a fixture in her life over the next decade or so.

Roberts knows how to write a captivating romance with an alluring amount of suspense. We fell in love with Adrian. She is smart, ambitious and despite the threat looming over her head she stays 100% cool and collected.
The attention to detail in the scenes where Adrian is discussing fitness and video-making – it’s clear that Roberts has done her research! The attention to detail made this book all the more interesting and fun to read. Not to mention the supporting cast of the other characters in the town and Adrian’s girlfriends! We love to see well-written female friendships and Roberts hits the mark!
The suspense was a looming dark presence, but it definitely didn’t suffocate the real message of the book: Adrian’s journey.
This book is a must-read for anyone wanting a small-town romance, strong family values, some exciting suspense and threat, but most importantly a heroine succeeding in her career and personal life despite all of life’s struggles.
