After his military service, Ross Carpenter launched Cypress Security with a few close friends and planted the business in his small hometown. But coming home comes with the inevitable blasts from the past.

Most recently? His newest client has accused Allie Williams, a woman he hasn’t seen or forgotten since their high school graduation, of serious crimes.

Allie is on the run, toting evidence that her company’s new wonder-drug has deadly side-effects. In an attempt to save lives–including her own–she escapes to her hometown, hoping to find someone who will listen.

The someone turns out to be Ross, her high school sweetheart.

Although he’s working for her enemy, he saves her from the killer hired to silence her. And guards her from mounting danger as the company tries to suppress the truth.

For Ross, the woman who stole his heart is worth any risk. He’ll do whatever it takes to expose the web of lies and clear the way for a future where they can be together. Forever.

If you like small town romantic suspense with a spike of adrenaline and tender emotion, you’ll love Allie’s Shelter.

Excerpt From Allie’s Shelter by Regan Black:

Run! Arms pumping, legs churning, she cast off the high heels that completed her cobalt business suit and prayed it would be enough. All that was left of her life was in the stylish black leather backpack looped over her shoulders.

Run!” Her lungs burned and the humid air dragged at her. She dug deep for a higher gear, sprinting for the safety of the house. Getting caught was worse than losing the data, possibly worse than death.

She heard him gaining on her, his feet slapping the pavement just a micro-second quicker than her own.

He caught her around the middle, stealing her breath as they crashed to the street.

Heart hammering, Allie Williams leaped out of the dream, clutching her midsection and fumbling with the light. With shaking hands, she reached for the glass of water on the nightstand.

Three times this week the nightmare had left her feeling trapped and helpless. She didn’t need a dream analysis or psych evaluation to tell her what it signified.

They were closing in and she was out of options.

Out of friends.

Out of time.

* * *

Ross Carpenter sat up a little straighter in the late-model Ford sedan when a soft glow lit up the curtains in the second-story bedroom window.

He made a note in the log and didn’t need to page back to know this was the third time in five nights. In his years of security and surveillance he’d learned the guilty often had trouble sleeping.

Lucky for him, this time around the guilty party was easy on the eyes. With that lean athletic body that rocked a business suit or running gear, and the new short swing of sunny blonde hair, Allie Williams was still a sight to behold. Even after all these years.

He enjoyed his job regardless, but on long stakeouts like this, a little eye candy kept the team alert. This woman, this case, was going to need their full attention.

Interview With Regan Black

Q: What is your favorite trope to write and why?

RB: Reunion romance is one of my favorite tropes of all time. I’m a big believer in second chances! It just warms my heart to dream up characters who were meant for each other and separated by circumstances. When those characters reunite and learn to trust and work together and fall in love, it brings incredible joy to my writing day. And I hope readers are left with that same warm sense of hope and happiness as well.

Q: Describe your main character in three words.

RB: My heroine in three words: Smart. Brave. Determined.

Q: Is any part of your story or the characters based on personal experience?

RB: The only part of this book based on personal experience is the coffee shop. The Midnight Rooster was love at first sight for me. The eclectic, charming atmosphere and delicious coffee concoctions made me want to sit and write all day long.

Q: Do you listen to music while writing?

RB: For me, music works best during my editing time. When I’m revising, I put in my earbuds and blast a weird mix of Halestorm, Brothers Osborne, Kane Brown, Train, and Rascal Flatts to name a few.

Q: How many bookshelves are in your house?

RB: What a great question… We just added four more during a recent upgrade to my office so I went through and counted to be sure. Ready? We are up to twenty-two bookshelves!

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

RB: In recent years, I’ve had to be more deliberate about refilling my creative well. Reading, crocheting, cooking with my husband, and spending time in our butterfly garden are at the top of that list. We live in a gorgeous part of South Carolina and sometimes a drive to the beach or up toward the lakes and mountains is a wonderful way for me to recharge and refresh.
