What’s interesting is that she skirts the edge of the wall of windows to get to me, eyeing the timeout corner like it might bite her.
I chuckle in my head. I’ve seen her do this several times today. I’m sure the other girls have told her stories about standing in that corner. It’s ominous because even though the rest of the floors in the house have been refinished, that section has intentionally been left untouched.
Craig told me earlier that this mansion has been in Roman’s family for over a century and naughty Little girls have stood in that corner for decades. Every time a new generation takes over, they never repair the worn floorboards in that corner.
Caro leaps toward me at the last second as if she might avoid even the thought of the timeout corner if she can stay far enough away from it.
I laugh as I wrap my arms around her, lifting her off the floor so her feet are dangling. I take slow broad steps toward the scary corner.
Caro squeals. “Daddy.”
I look down at her, pasting on a confused expression. “What? Did you see a mouse over here?” I step closer.
The other girls are gasping.
“Do you think this corner is haunted?” I ask.
She wiggles. “Put me down, Daddy. I’ve been good. I don’t need the naughty corner.”
I can’t keep from laughing as I reach the corner and plaster the back of her to the place where the walls meet. “What will happen if I set your feet down right here, angel?”
She’s panting now. “I don’t know. Let’s not find out.” She even lifts her feet higher.
“Is this like that old saying that if you step on a crack, you’ll break your mama’s back?” I’m growing more curious now. She’s kind of serious about her aversion.
“Maybe,” she admits. “What if I become naughty because of the corner?”
I’m still chuckling. “Are you superstitious, angel?”
“Maybe…” She lifts her feet higher. “Let’s not test it, okay, Daddy?” she begs in a very interesting Little voice.
Meet The Author
Becca Jameson is a USA Today bestselling author of over 100 books. She is most well-known for her Wolf Masters series, her Fight Club series, and her Surrender series. She currently lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband and Goldendoodle. Two grown kids pop in every once in a while too! She is loving this journey and has dabbled in a variety of genres, including paranormal, sports romance, military, and BDSM.
A total night owl, Becca writes late at night, sequestering herself in her office with a glass of red wine and a bar of dark chocolate, her fingers flying across the keyboard as her characters weave their own stories.
During the day–which never starts before ten in the morning!–she can be found jogging, running errands, or reading in her favorite hammock chair!
Interview with Becca Jameson
Q: Tell us about your publishing journey. Did you always want to be an author?
BJ: Never thought about it until I was about 40. My sister is an author. I started editing for her, then editing for publishers, then thought, eh, I can do this myself!
Q: Tell us about your heroine. What inspired her quirks and struggles
BJ: Hannah is secretly a well-known pianist who hides her kinky side from the world, afraid people won’t understand if they find out. She has been very fortunate to have been raised by a mother figure who recognized her need to be Little and helped her find a way to nurture that side of her.
Q: What is a typical writing day like for you? What inspires you?
BJ: I’m a night owl. I don’t get up before nine and spend most of the daytime managing social media, answering emails, and talking to other authors. I write 5-7k words a day, but not until after dark.
Q: How many books have you published and which is your favorite?
BJ: 140. My favorite is usually the one I’m working on. Lately though, I’m still rather fixated on Raising Lucy. Lucy and Roman, the characters from that book, feature throughout the Surrender and Blossom Ridge series.
Q: Name a few of your favorite authors or books.
BJ: I’m fixated by Pam Godwin. Loving her dark romances and how she manages to redeem the most horrible characters. She’s brilliant. I also love Kristen Ashley. I listen to most of hers on audio.
Q: Your ideal writing space is..?
BJ: At my desk with everything at the perfect height! I probably look like a piano player with excellent posture when I write.
