Our Review
Right from the outset, I was utterly engrossed in Sloane and Lucian’s tale. Their story possesses an irresistible magnetic quality, drawing you in despite the tumultuous history they share. The depth of their emotions and shocking chemistry makes it nearly impossible to look away.
Sloane and Lucian are really well-rounded characters. Sloane’s relatability is endearing, and I couldn’t help but root for her aspirations of building a family. Lucian, despite his occasional exasperating moments, is a character I couldn’t help but look up to. Their rollercoaster of a relationship had me on the edge of my seat throughout!
From the very beginning, I needed to jump into the minds of Sloane and Lucian. Sloane’s librarian persona with its underlying sensuality was utterly captivating, and Lucian swiftly became my favorite leading man among Lucy’s literary creations. He flawlessly combines the gruffness of the Morgan men with a heart of gold, especially when it concerns Sloane. The glimpses into their shared teenage past were also a really nice touch!
Their journey from childhood friends to foes and ultimately to lovers was so GOOD. We love a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers. Who doesn’t? The sparks of their chemistry leaped off the pages, and every interaction, whether it was their banter or passionate moments, was leaving me tearing through the novel.
Not to mention that their struggles throughout the narrative tugged at my heartstrings, often bringing tears to my eyes.
What I cherished most about the book was the equilibrium it struck between intense tension and steamy romantic interludes. The sizzling chemistry between Sloane and Lucian illuminated their connection, with each scene adding depth to their relationship, making it feel real.
Pacing-wise, Lucy Score’s narratives are known for their lengthiness, which, on occasion, can be daunting. However, this time around, I wholeheartedly embraced the journey because I was thoroughly invested in the characters and their evolving relationship. The length of the book didn’t deter me, and for those who may find the page count daunting, I recommend opting for the eBook format. Or even the audiobook! Personally, listening to audiobooks while cleaning is one of the few things which makes me look forward to cleaning!
While romance takes center stage, a suspenseful element weaves the series together. Even if suspense isn’t your primary focus, the first 400 pages are undeniably compelling. The unveiling of secrets infuses an extra layer of intrigue into the narrative.
Things We Left Behind serves as a beautifully wrapped conclusion to the Knockemout series. Lucy Score has demonstrated her ability to craft romances that are both heartwarming and passionate. If you savor stories of enemies turned lovers with a dash of suspense, this book, along with the entire Knockemout series, is an absolute must-read. Prepare to be entranced!
