Cruel. Merciless. Wicked. If they find out the truth, I’ll lose everything—including my father’s life.
Surgery saved me, but left my family drowning in debt. The man we owe has one demand–destroy the hockey team from within.
Three obsessive, controlling men catch me spying and promise retribution for my sins. Cole is as cold as the ice beneath his skates, and he likes to hurt me. Tristan’s sweetness hides a terrifying possessiveness. And broody, frightening Coach Aleksandr? He hates me with a passion I don’t understand—but his hands tell a different story.
Their brutal touches and degrading commands break down my walls until I can’t tell where I end and they begin. With every cruel game, I fall deeper, tangled in a web of lies I can’t escape.
When you’re in as deep as I am, walking away isn’t an option. Surviving might not be, either.
Twisted Play is a scorching hot, dark, why choose, college, hockey romance. Eva’s story concludes in Vicious Win, Book Two of the Cruel Games duet.

“Stop!” I threw myself at the men dragging my father across our living room, wrapping myself around a thick, tattooed arm, as if I had a shot in hell of slowing their progress. “Please, you have to stop.”
The sour smell of beer lingered on my father’s clothes, mixing with the sharp copper from his bloody nose—a familiar combination that brought back memories of nights spent cleaning up after his binges, of promises to do better.
“Eva,” my father rasped, every breath labored from his broken, bloody nose. “Don’t, please.”
“The fuck I won’t!” I snapped, digging in my heels. I’d spent too many years watching him destroy himself, cleaning up his messes—messes that were my fault—to watch him back down now. My father had given up everything to save me. Now, it was my turn to save him.

Exclusive Interview With Poppy Jacobson:
Q: What is your favorite trope to write and why?
PJ: Found family. There’s something magnetic about broken people choosing each other, carving out a place where they belong. That’s also why I love writing why choose relationships. At their core, they’re about loyalty, devotion, and a fierce love that refuses to let go.
Q: Why did you choose your setting?
PJ: All my books are set in Yorkfield—a fictional city where organized crime rules the streets and an elite university sits right in the middle of the chaos. It’s gritty, violent, and brimming with secrets. So when it came time to write a university story, Yorkfield U was a perfect setting for privilege and corruption to collide.
Q: What were some challenges while writing this book?
PJ: Writing Eva meant putting my own heart on the page—her insecurities about her body, the messy push-and-pull between self-love and self-doubt, and the constant tension of being both desired and dismissed. Those scenes have pieces of me in them, and it hurt to pour the words out.
Q: What was the highlight of writing this book?
PJ: Reader reactions, hands down. It’s wild and fun and I love it so much. This is the first time people are sliding into my DMs just to scream about the story—to tell me they can’t stop thinking about Eva, Alek, Tristan, and Cole. Seeing readers go feral over these characters has been absolutely amazing.
Q: Where can our readers find you on social media?
PJ: I’m feral on Threads and professional on Instagram.
