Dominic
I got her fired. Okay, so I’d had a bad day and took it out on a bystander in a pizza shop. But there’s nothing innocent about Ally Morales. She proves that her first day of her new job… in my office… after being hired by my mother.

So maybe her colorful, annoying, inexplicably alluring personality brightens up the magazine’s offices that have felt like a prison for the past year. Maybe I like that she argues with me in front of the editorial staff. And maybe my after-hours fantasies are haunted by those brown eyes and that sharp tongue.

But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be the next Russo man to take advantage of his position. I might be a second-generation asshole, but I am not my father.

She’s working herself to death at half a dozen dead-end jobs for some secret reason she doesn’t feel like sharing with me. And I’m going to fix it all. Don’t accuse me of caring. She’s nothing more than a puzzle to be solved. If I can get her to quit, I can finally peel away all those layers. Then I can go back to salvaging the family name and forget all about the dancing, beer-slinging brunette.

Ally

Our Overview

I leaned in. “Quit.”

“Make me.”

“I fully intend to.”

“Great. Now that that’s settled, how about you scamper off to whatever ring of hell you came from and let me earn my paycheck?”

Dominic Russo isn’t a guy who typically gets people fired. After a scandal involving his father, Dominic is forced to take control of the company and in turn, reign in his temper. Even as the creative director at his family’s fashion magazine – he tries his best to keep it a relatively drama-free environment. After a year of bad day after bad day, he snaps at a pizza parlour waitress when she gives him attitude.

Overcome with stress and a build-up of irritation, Dominic insists on getting the waitress fired. But karma always bites back and it comes as a huge surprise when the new hire at the company is none other than Ally Morales – the same waitress.

Despite the rocky start, Dominic finds himself entranced with Ally and seeks her out all the time. She holds back no punches and brightens up the office with her barb-like attitude and her sunny disposition.

On the other side of the war; Ally is fuming that this rich jerk got her fired. When she realises that her new job is at Dominic’s company? She calls for bloodshed. Just because everyone else tiptoes around Dominic doesn’t mean that she will. She obviously didn’t account for their chemistry to be so mesmerising.

Our Review of By a Thread Lucy Score

Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned workplace enemies-to-lovers!

Forget meet-cute, Dominic and Ally’s first encounter is a definite meet-ugly. It’s no surprise that the two butt heads in the workplace and seem to be biting at each other’s ankles 24/7. But we all know where that leads us! With a pretty pink cover, this book promises to pull you in and have you falling for the workplace banter and the steamy chemistry between the two.

The characters in this book are so fun and interesting. Ally is our favorite for sure. She’s headstrong and hard-working. The financial struggles she faces make her strong and give her a completely different perspective on life than her romantic counterpart, Dominic. Despite her financial strain, she refuses any help, even from her best friend. We love to see realistic strong women in fiction, and Ally has stolen our hearts.

The burning romance in this is so tantalizing. Typically workplace romances sit with me the wrong way, but Ally is such a strong character that it doesn’t leave us with a bad taste in our mouths!

We definitely recommend this novel to anyone who has a hankering for slow-burn romances with a hefty dose of witty and barbed banter.
