Kamisama Kiss (2015-2016)

Horimiya (2021)

So, they agree to keep their identities a secret and begin to spend more time together.

Maid-Sama! (2010)

Once an all-boys high school, Saika High, infamous for rowdy students has become a co-ed school. However, the female population is still a minority. Misaki Ayuzawa is working hard to make the place a better school for girls. She puts in a lot of effort and it pays off – she’s the first female school council president.

Misaki works part-time in a maid cafe to support her ill mother and sister by returning the huge dept left by their father. Unfortunately, this is discovered by Takumi Usui, a popular student at Seika High. Instead of revealing her secret, Takumi becomes a regular there and they begin to fall in love with each other.

Fruits Basket (2019)

Tohru Honda is left temporarily homeless and living in a tent after her mother’s death. She is discovered by two members of the Soma family – her classmate, Yuki and his older cousin, Shigure – who invite her to live with them. Yuki’s other cousin, Kyo, moves in as well. After accidentally falling into Kyo, Tohru finds out that the Soma family are hiding a secret: they’re possessed by the spirits of Chinese Zodiac and they turn into their respective animal under certain conditions.

Tohru swears to keep it a secret, but the curse is far deeper and darker than she could ever imagine. She sets out to break the curse to free the Somas from their binding to the physically and emotionally abusive family head, Akito. Along the way, she meets more of the Soma family and falls in love.

Plastic Memories (2019)

Humans and androids with human-like appearances live side by side. SAI Corp, the leading android production company, introduce Giftia – the most human-like androids. But they have a lifespan of roughly nine years and four months. Once the lifespan expires, their personality distorts and makes them violent. This requires the Terminal Service to retrieve Giftias before the end of their life spans.

Tsukasa Mizugaki is the newest member of Terminal Service One. His partner is Isla, a Giftia. Tsukasa and Isla are tasked with collecting the Giftia’s near the end of their lives and separating them from the humans they have developed a connection with. But Tsukasa realises that the more time they spend together, the more he’s falling in love with Isla.

Snow White with the Red Hair (2015)

Shirayuki is a normal herbalist in the kingdom of Tanbarun. Her beautiful red hair attracts a lot of attention, meaning that she had to be careful when visiting new places growing up. Prince Raj notices Shirayuki and orders her to become his concubine. Refusing him, she cuts off her hair and leaves it with him because she knew that he only wanted her for her hair.

Escaping to the neighbouring kingdom of Clarines, she meets Prince Zen Wistaria and his two aides, Mitsuhide and Kiki. However, Prince Raj isn’t pleased that Shirayuki rejected him. As she tries to stay out of danger, she begins to develop feelings for Prince Zen.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (2018)

Mai Sakurajima is an actress, who decides to take a break from the pressures of her work. Suddenly she realises that people no longer acknowledge her existence at all. She’s practically invisible to everyone. Until she meets Sakuta Azusagawa at the library, whilst wearing a bunny girl outfit to test if people would notice her.

As time passes, more and more people start to forget about Mai’s existence until Sakuta is the only person who remembers her. He loves her, but he’s worried about forgetting her. And he’s the only one who can help Mai be remembered again.

My Love Story!! (2015)

A task which brings them closer together.

Crash Landing on You (2019)

Yoon Se-ri is a South Korean chaebol heiress to the Queen’s Group. Se-ri’s father, who can no longer run business, wants Se-ri to take over in place of her brothers. However, when she is out paragliding, she gets caught in a sudden tornado and blown into North Korea. Its there that she meets Captain Ri Jeong-hyeok.

Fun Fact: Hyun-Bin and Son Ye-jin are currently dating, so its no wonder that these two had such great chemistry in this K-drama!

And of course, romance is bound to happen (there’s a love triangle, yay!)

Fun Fact: Park Hyung-sik has a song on the soundtrack. He can sing, he can dance and he can act, is there anything he can’t do?

Although it’s not easy for them to date. Si-Jin keeps getting called in for duty and their dates keep getting interrupted. So they break up. And eight months later, they are drawn back together in Uruk.

Fun Fact: Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-Kyo, who both played the lead roles, married on October 31, 2017. Although they are now divorced, Descendants of the Sun shows the great chemistry that they had.

Like many good romance films/shows, this is loosely based on Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.

She needs him, and he agrees as long as she helps him recover a fortune that was stolen from him.

Fun Fact: The name Joong-won means something along the lines of ‘supremacy’, which is befitting for his personality.

And Joong-young agrees after a while and tries to win her heart back.

Hotel del Luna (2019)

Jang Man-wol is the owner of a hotel. Due to a huge sin she committed a millennium ago, the hotel catering to the dead has been bound to her soul. As the result of a deal she made with his father, Gu Chang-sung – a Harvard MBA graduate – is forced to become the manager of Hotel del Luna. Man-wol loves luxury (and she worn over 100 different outfits throughout the series), whereas Chang-sung is more rational and curbs her spendthrift and extortionist tendencies. While this does put them at odds, it also makes them a perfect couple.

Fun Fact: A lot of famous stars had cameos in this drama – like the actors Kim Soo Hyun and Lee Joong Gi. As well as the late singer Sulli, who was close friends with IU.

Charlie Spring is Joe’s debut television role. He was chosen out of 10,000 other potential actors that were up for the role through an open casting call. Joe really wanted the role of Charlie because he saw a lot of himself in the character. Joe was born on the Isle of Man. He is currently studying for his A Level exams – politics, history and English.

Kit Connor (Nick Nelson)

Before his role in Heartstopper, Kit had starred in other notable series and films. He played young Elton John in Rocketman and is the voice of Pantalaimon in His Dark Materials. Kit had actually auditioned for the role of Charlie, but instead ended up as Nick. Like Joe, Kit is also studying for his A Level exams – drama, English literature and history.

William Gao (Tao Xu)

Will – like Kit – grew up in Croydon. Tao was his debut on-screen role. But he’s been apart of the band Wasia Project with his sister since 2019. And he first began acting in theater productions. He has been a part of the National Youth Theater also since 2019.

Will plays Tao, who is Charlie’s overprotective best friend. Tao is initially very distrustful towards Nick. And he often turns to Elle and Isaac for help convincing Charlie to give up on his crush for Nick.

Yasmin Finney (Elle Argent)

Yasmin initially gained attention through TikTok about her experiences as a Trans woman growing up in Manchester. She was cast in Billy Porter’s film What If? but had to pull out due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Yasmin has said that she relates a lot to her character Elle.

Following Elle’s transition, she transferred from the Truham Grammar School for Boys to the Harvey Greene Grammar School for Girls. Whilst being in a new school and struggling to make friends, Elle also has to deal with her blossoming feelings for her best friend Tao.

Corrina Brown (Tara Jones)

Corrina began her career as an actress in 2012, debuting in the film My Murder. She is a proficient dancer, performer and singer. As well as this, she is said to be a trained aerialist, stilts performer, and fight performer.

Tara is introduced as a potential love interest for Nick, since they kissed once at a party when they were young. However, Tara has absolutely no interest in Nick and Nick has no interest in Tara, despite the fact that everyone expects them to get together.

Kizzy Edgell (Darcy Olsson)

Like much of the cast, Heartstopper is Kizzy’s on-screen debut. They are non-binary.

Darcy is extremely chaotic and extroverted, loving to make the people around her laugh, especially her best friend Tara. Darcy is out as a lesbian and is extremely confident with herself.

Sebastian Croft (Ben Hope)

Sebastian – or Bash – began his career as a child actor on stage. He made his on-screen debut in Game of Thrones as young Ned Stark. Bash also starred in: Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans as Atti and Love, Death & Robots as Fletcher in the episode “Ice”. On top of this, he has made appearances in Penny Dreadful and Doom Patrol. And unlike most of the cast who tend to relate to their roles, Bash (understandably) hates his character Ben.

Ben was initially dating Charlie. However, his fear of being outed made him cruel and nasty towards Charlie.

This K-drama tells the story of a mysterious outdoor drinking establishment run by the illtempered Weol-ju, an innocent part-timer Han Kang-bae and former afterlife detective Chief Gwi who visits customers in their dreams to help resolve their problems. Kang-bae has an ability that with a touch, he can make people tell their troubles. This is useful to Weol-ju who needs to settle the grudges of 100,000 souls.
