Our Review

Nora Roberts once again proves herself as the queen of romanceland. Not suggesting that this novel is as simple cut-and-dry as a romance. Nightwork Nora Roberts is a fantastic blend of action, mystery, crime, and romance.

The first half of this novel is dedicated to defining Harry’s character, which may make for a delay in active storytelling to a degree, but it only supports the later half of the novel. We grow much more attached to the character, and all of the things that happen to become much more impactful and emotional. As a result of this careful character creation, this may be our favorite Nora Roberts character to date!

Roberts’ new story has all– endearing characters whom you feel for, a heart-touching love story with Harry and Miranda, and intense action– all which come together to make a read which is unforgettable.

Our Review

We’re sad to announce that this is the final book in The Dragon Heart Legacy series. We’re very happy to announce, however, that it is exciting and overall a wonderful end to an equally enjoyable series.

Breen has been developing her strength and confidence over the course of the novels, and in this final book we really see Breen shine. We pick up in the aftermath of a brutal batal. In the face of grief, we rebuild strength and morale. Breen strides forward with the need for world peace.

One of my favorite parts about novels has always been the community within the pages. Building a family from rag-tag nobodies and creating something wonderful and tightly woven with care and love. We see this here in the community which happily embraces Breen and Marcus. Through the series we’ve built immense love and loyalty within the community, and in The Choice, Nora Roberts does a wonderful job in exploring the many unique relationships within the story. Not just focus on the romance, but an intense tale of friendship, family, and all sorts of unique relationship colors. This really makes the story all the more impactful because we truly hear what Breen is fighting for.

Don’t let my sappy reminiscence on love and community mislead you, this novel is packed with action and suspense. We’re preparing for Odran’s attack, and the suspense is only intensified by the shifting perspectives between our heroes and Odran’s preparations. The dual perspective really juxtaposes the safe, loving community we see deep in the bones of Talamh.

The concluding battle, which the series has been bubbling up to, comes surprisingly late in the book. Some fans point this to their dislike, but personally, I found that it fits perfectly with the messages of the series. It was never a series about war, but rather about love. Love of family, heritage, culture, people, and the love that is woven deep in society which allows us to function as a community. This all is a commentary which works in dichotomy with the themes of power-hungry people, prejudice, and distrust.

Detailed Description

We take off where The Awakening left off, with Breen Kelly and her best friend Marco jumping through a portal from America back to the magical world of Talamh.

Breen was born in Talamh and inherited powerful magic from her fey father but Breen’s (human) mother insisted that they leave the magical realm, fearing for their safety. Breen grew up with no knowledge of her background. She was taught how to use her magic by Keegan, the leader of the fey.

Luckily, Breen’s return is just at the right time. The people of Talamh sense that the wicked god Odran has been preparing to attack their world in his efforts to take over the known realms. Odran is her grandfather, and Breen plans to use her magick to stop him while he hopes to steal her abilities to further his own evil plans.

Breen and Keegan put their romance on the back burner to focus on preparing Breen for battle.

Keegan’s ex-lover will do anything to get him back, all the while Marco finds himself falling in love with a handsome young soldier.

As Breen attends events in the capital, the inevitability of war with her grandfather paints a grave mood for the inhabitants.

Our Review

It’s no surprise to us that The Becoming Nora Roberts is a strong follow-up to the previous novel in the series, The Awakening. The fantasy setting is wonderfully described. The prologue is an excellent choice to give us some backstory on the troubles within Talamh alongside Breen’s story.

The threat of war is heavy and tangible – Roberts is no stranger to creating a mood deep in the bones of the characters. Their nerves are real and we felt them too.

Although some aspects of the magick laws went over our heads, we really do feel like Breen, since she isn’t too sure what’s happening either! Additionally, Roberts is known for her heart-gripping romances, so it came as a pleasant surprise that Breen and Keegan’s romance was put on hold in preparation for battle. It feels all the more realistic and really makes us excited to see how the relationship will bloom in the final instalment of the trilogy!

It’s no surprise to us that Nora Roberts Legacy is another huge YES.

Roberts knows how to write a captivating romance with an alluring amount of suspense. We fell in love with Adrian. She is smart, ambitious and despite the threat looming over her head she stays 100% cool and collected.

The attention to detail in the scenes where Adrian is discussing fitness and video-making – it’s clear that Roberts has done her research! The attention to detail made this book all the more interesting and fun to read. Not to mention the supporting cast of the other characters in the town and Adrian’s girlfriends! We love to see well-written female friendships and Roberts hits the mark!

The suspense was a looming dark presence, but it definitely didn’t suffocate the real message of the book: Adrian’s journey.

This book is a must-read for anyone wanting a small-town romance, strong family values, some exciting suspense and threat, but most importantly a heroine succeeding in her career and personal life despite all of life’s struggles.

One standout point from Year One is Nora Roberts’ excellent style of writing. She keeps you hooked from the beginning, waiting anxiously each page to find out what happens next. And she has built-up a world that is so real you can easily imagine how it looks. You find yourself caring a lot for the characters, willing them to survive through all the hardships that this world throws at them.

Everything about Year One is why we love Nora Roberts. The amazing characters, the exciting story, and the fact that we could not put down this book no matter how hard we tried. It really showcases the talents that she has as an author.

Although, Year One is slightly lacking in the romance aspect. There are couples in there – like Lana and Max (and we adored them so much, we were cheering them on the whole time) – but classing this as a straight up romance book may not be totally accurate. However, even though we love romance (DUH!), we still think that this book is worth the read regardless.

From the very first chapter when Nora describes how The Doom began and we watch as it spreads from people innocently going around their day to day business this book is compelling. The world Nora builds from here is believable with her expertise as the survivors fight to find their way in this new world. Some by grouping together and others by turning on each other and to violence, showcasing every aspect of human nature and how people can react to disaster.

One thing that slightly irked me when reading this book is how easy it seems to be for them to find food, shelter, etc. And the fact that they still have electricity and running water. But we don’t really worry too much about the little things. So, since we loved the rest of the book, we think that this is forgivable and as long as you don’t question it too much then it isn’t too distracting.

To sum up, despite the slight lack of romance (and it’s only slight – there’s enough romance to give us our daily fix), Year One is still an amazingly written book with a great world and characters that we just love and a large sprinkling of magic.
