Quinn has a knack for creating endearing and relatable characters, and Gregory and Hermione are no exception. Their love story is both unconventional and enchanting, and readers will find themselves rooting for them every step of the way. The supporting cast of characters, including the beloved Bridgerton family and their friends, add depth and dimension to the story, making it feel like a reunion with old friends.

We still, despite having read 8 books by now, can’t get enough of Quinn’s writing! Her prose is witty, charming, and engaging, and she knows how to create tension and build anticipation. The scandal and intrigue surrounding Hermione’s plagiarism accusation add an extra layer of excitement to the story, while the romance between Gregory and Hermione is tender and heartwarming.

The love we have for this book is a little bittersweet, as we know the series is coming to a close. However, this made us appreciate it even more!

At the party, Hyacinth meets Gareth St. Clair, the enigmatic and brooding grandson of Lady Danbury. The Bridgerton series is yet to give us a miss! Quinn is delivering hit after hit! Despite following the family for so long, we can’t get bored! As always, Quinn’s characters are well-developed and relatable, particularly Hyacinth, who is intelligent, sharp-tongued, and independent. Her chemistry with Gareth is electric, and their banter and growing affection for each other are heartwarming and endearing. The banter Quinn presents is natural and exceedingly fun to follow.

Family is always such an integral point in the Bridgeryon novels, but It’s In His Kiss provides us with some extra excitement! The exploration of family dynamics and relationships in the novel, particularly the complexities of the St. Clair family and their history is refreshing and exciting. Quinn skillfully weaves together various storylines and themes, creating a rich and satisfying narrative that left us feeling ever more satisfied and invested in the characters’ lives.

A little familiar after the previous book, we follow one Eloise Bridgerton pondering her lonely life as a spinster. Although Eloise had always claimed to be happily single, now that her best friend Penelope has found love, she is finding it hard to face the world without the concurrent singleness of her best friend.

One day she offers condolences to a distant cousin’s husband, a Sir Phillip Crane, whose depressed wife, Marina, has just passed. The two begin a pen pal letter exchange lasting a long time. Needless to say, there is some romantic tension bursting through the pages! Meanwhile, Phillip is struggling to care for his twin children, Oliver and Amanda, since his wife’s passing, though he does not disclose this to Eloise in her letters.

Eloise decides to surprise Phillip at his home, where she is shocked to discover he has children. Nonetheless, she takes it in her stride and cares for him and the children. As they spend more time together, Phillip shares the traumas of his childhood and his marriage to Marina with Eloise.

With a beautiful woman caring for him and his children, Phillip can’t help but gradually fall for one Eloise. And in likewise, with Phillip being greatly supportive and kind, mutual feelings begin to become apparent. Eventually, after what feels like an age, the pair announce their love to each other and get married.

Our Review

Eloise’s longing for love makes her vulnerable – not to be mistaken for being weak! Much like Penelope, she is a fairly modern woman with a lot of self-respect. Definately someone I could see myself being friends with!

The banter between Eloise and Phillip was endearing, sometimes funny and sometimes, well, not so funny. As much as we loved the story there were parts of Phillip’s reasonings for falling for Eloise that left a bad taste in our mouths. How many times do you need to tell a woman you want her to mother your children!

Despite some concerning dialogue, the novel is a nice addition to the series. Maybe not as high up in our favorites as the previous instalment (but who can resist Penelope?), but a wonderful read nonetheless.

The processing of grief from his wife passing was written very well and despite some internalised issues which presented in uncomfortable ways, I did care deeply for Phillip. He doesn’t quite know how to express love, and doesn’t know how as his father was cruel and he went on to blame himself for his wife’s passing. He’s scared to reach out to his children for fear that he will continue the cycle of abuse.

Some topics are quite difficult, and some parts weren’t fun to read – but this definitely sets a realistic and slightly darker tone in comparison to the other books.

We follow the lovely young lady Penelope. She has loved Colin since she was 16. She had come to terms with the fact that the two of them are not suited, years later and working as a spinster, she appreciates the friendship they maintain. Back home from travels, Colin slowly begins to see Penelope in a new light. Colin and Penelope share some sweet moments together while uncovering the truth about the mysterious society paper writer.

The pair are at a ball, when Lady Danbury announces that she will give £1,000 to the person who unmasks Lady Whistledown. As the Bridgerton and Featheringtons discuss the society papers, it becomes slowly clear that the Lady could be anyone.

Colin kept a journal while on his travels. Penelope sees it and adores his penmanship and writings. The two grow closer, and Colin eventually comes to Penelope to confide that he believes Eloise is Lady Whistledown. She disagrees, but he points out that someone else may accuse Eloise and words are very powerful. In an effort to prove his point, he says that if he publicly stated that he seduced Penelope, her reputation would be in ruin. No matter the truth. This hypothetical leads to both minds racing and Penelope asks him to kiss her.

Colin finds himself confused about his emotions and leaves. He regrets leaving her so briskly and plans to apologise at a ball a few days later. However, the moment is stolen as Cressida announces that she is Lady Whistledown.

The next day he goes out to apologize to Penelope and he sees her going to a bad part of the city. She leaves an envelope behind a prayer book. Confronting her, he opens it and discovers that she is Lady Whistledown, resulting in an argument.

They continue to fight en route home, but the fighting soon turns into something else. As Penelope gets out of the carriage, Colin proposes to her. Everything seems honey-sweet, until the couriers come in with a new Lady Whistledown column. Colin is furious, and takes her somewhere private to argue but in the heat of the moment, he realises how deeply he loves her.

The pair get married. Things go well until Cressida shows up to blackmail Penelope. She has figured out the secret. Colin takes care of the situation by announcing what his wife did while they are at a ball.

Our Review

It’s so nice to see Penelope taking center stage! The overlooked girl who is considered “left on the shelf” growing into a well-spoken and confident woman. She is a remarkable leading character. She might not fit the image of ideal woman for that time period, all the more reason to love her! Penelope is intelligent, vibrant, and terribly brave.

Colin and Penelope together make an especially charming couple. Colin is playful and he’s fairly fun to read! There’s a level of relatableness to his character which is a little surprising given the time and setting of the novel.

As always, the Bridgerton family dynamics make these books so much fun. It’s delightful to see all the sibling bickering and Violet (Mama Bridgerton) rolling her eyes at her children’s outrageous behavior.

Not to mention that Penelope was harbouring such a colossal secret! We can hardly believe it. The ending of the novel set us up perfectly for novel #5, To Sir Phillip, With Love . We can hardly wait! Four down, four to go!

In this charming Cinderalla-inspired instalment of Bridgerton, we follow Sophie Beckett. She is the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood. The Earl takes her in as his ward, but the same can’t be said for the Earl’s wife, Araminta. She serves as the ‘wicked stepmother’ in the story. After the Earl’s passing, Sophie stays in the family, but serves as little more than a servant to her stepmother.

One night, she manages to sneak into Lady Bridgerton’s famous masquerade ball. With her identity a secret, she meets Benedict Bridgerton and the two become instantly smitten.

Even after two years, Benedict swears he will only marry his mystery woman. Meanwhile, Sophie has been kicked out of her home and has been forced to work as a maid. The pair reunite as Benedict rescues her from some unwanted advances. He pulls some strings and has Sophie working for his mother.

Despite Benedict not knowing Sophie is his love, he finds himself drawn to her and the pair grow close. Not to mention the Bridgertons grow very fond of the young lady as well.

Still with his heart on the mystery woman, Benedict asks Sophie if she would be his mistress. Given her history, Sophie has no interest in any illegitimate children receiving the same treatment she did.

Benedict conveys his dilemma to his mother, who assures him that she would not hold any grudge against him should he marry outside of their social class. Howerver, when he sees Sophie blindfolded, he realises that she was the mystery woman all along.

The pair have an argument as Benedict is angry at Sophie for hiding her identity and Sophie decides to resign. In another tragic stroke of bad luck, Sophie’s stepmother accuses her of theft and she is taken to jail. Eventually, with some twisted alliance with her step-sisters, Sophie returns home with Benedict and they plan their marriage.

Our Review

We adore the heartwarming Bridgerton series and this novel is no exception. The re was a lot of inter-class commentary in this novel which was especially interesting to read from both a ‘commoner’ and a regal perspective.

It was especially refreshing to read the novel from Sophie’s perspective. We found ourselves falling for the young woman and admiring her strength despite the cruel hand she’d been given at the hands of her step-mother. Benedict equally was interesting to follow, especially his near unwavering devotion to a woman he had only (knowingly) met once. Even more when he fell for Sophie, he was willing to marry someone outside of the social class, putting his reputation on the line.

This retelling of Cinderella is very charming, and adds a new twist with some of the additional turns in the story and added drama. Ultimately, it ends as a fairy tale, as do all Bridgerton books, with both Sophie and Benedict meeting their happy ever afters.

Our Review

We adore the heartwarming Bridgerton series and this novel is no exception. The family dynamic is strong and engaging – which is one of our favorite parts!

Many reviews found faults in Anthony, but to us, that was one of his appeals. It’s refreshing to have a ‘rake’ (think an old-timey fuckboy), who goes against the societal norms and finds marriage on his own terms. We explore a lot more than love with Anthony in this novel, especially the lingering trauma of losing a parent and how that affects family and his own personal growth. We follow a lot of Anthony’s fears in death and losing his loved ones and they are explored tastefully and with respect.

In a mirror to reality, these fears affect his relationship with Kate and we explore how the pair work through these fears together. The enemies-to-lovers aspect of the couple is a huge appeal to us, and it gave us some series Ten Things I Hate About You vibes.

Both Kate and Anthony are remarkable characters. Kate is strong, independent, and 100% able to put up with some of Anthony’s crap. Anthony is charming, a little damaged, and fairly witty. The pair’s banter felt natural and was organic and endlessly amusing!

The Duke and I is the first book in the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn. It follows the love story of Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family, and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.

At the beginning of the book, Daphne is presented at court and becomes a sought-after debutante. Simon, meanwhile, has no interest in finding a wife, and instead decides to enter into a fake courtship with Daphne in order to deter other suitors. Despite their agreement to keep their relationship purely platonic, Daphne and Simon find themselves falling for each other.

As their feelings grow, they struggle with the fact that their relationship is based on a lie and with the societal expectations placed upon them. In the end, they must decide whether to follow their hearts or to do what is expected of them!

Our Review

We absolutely loved “The Duke and I” by Julia Quinn! The characters, Daphne and Simon, were so well-developed and their chemistry was off the charts. I found myself rooting for them from the very beginning, and was thoroughly invested in their love story.

The setting of the Regency era added an extra layer of charm to the novel, and I enjoyed learning about the societal expectations and customs of the time period. Historical fiction can be daunting, but Quinn presents it in such a way that it’s almost second-hand how simple it is to follow and comprehend.

Overall, this book was a delightful and heartwarming read that left me with a smile on my face. I highly recommend it to fans of historical romance or anyone looking for a feel-good love story. We can certainly see why the Netflix adaption became such a hit!
