Detailed Description

Warning: Possible mild spoilers ahead!

It’s definitely a case of love at first site when Leeds meets Layla. The two meet at her sister’s wedding where he is an enthusiastic member of the band brought in for the entertainment. When Leed’s spots Layla she immediately makes the night more interesting, even though Leeds does appreciate that she is a very bad dancer. After then wedding is over, the two meet and sparks start to fly and they end up spending the night together.

One night turns out to not be enough for the enamoured couple and they end up staying longer at the wedding hotel long after the rest of the guests have departed. Even then the loved up pair can’t bear to be separated so they go to stay at Leeds place as they get to know each other better.

Layla encourages Leeds to leave the band that he hates and to branch out in his own music career, something that he struggles to do due to a lack of confidence. He already has a small social media following for his music but with Layla’s encouragement he begins to build his music career. Everything seems perfect for the couple but that isn’t to last.

Leeds unwittingly posts a picture of the couple in bed together and is shocked by the negative response towards Layla from his fans. For her protection he immediately deletes the picture. But it is already too late. Whilst Leeds is in the bathroom he hears a knock at the door, then there is a gunshot. Leeds rushes out but it is too late. Layla has been shot and the perpetrator is still there. It is Leeds ex-girlfriend who also runs an unofficial fan club, Sable.

Fortunately Layla survives the attack but she leaves the hospital a changed woman. Leeds puts this change in her down to the trauma that she has suffered and he whisks her away to the hotel where they first met to give her time to heal. The hotel is not longer in business but the building is for sale so Leeds rent it as a retreat for the couple.

Strange happenings begin soon after they arrive which Leeds finds hard to explain. Meanwhile Layla’s trauma doesn’t improve and she is also suffering from memory loss and struggles to remember details that happened before the attack.

Eventually Leeds makes contact with a ghost at the hotel, at first he is scepticle but soon realises that what he is seeing is real. They communicate, first through hitting piano keys and then eventually the ghost types on Leeds laptop. She tells Leeds that her name is Willow and that she doesn’t know who she is or why she is there. Soon Willow finds that she can take over Layla’s body when Layla is asleep and she uses this opportunity to spend more time with Leeds. Leeds is intrigued by Willow and finds that he wants to help her find out why she is trapped at the hotel as her spirit seems unable to leave.

Leeds continues to allow Willow to use Layla’s body so they can spend time together. Meanwhile he is feeling increasingly distant to Layla as it doesn’t seem as though Layla is the person she was when they met. And as his distance with Layla grows as does his connection to Willow. Leeds finds that he wants to spend more time with Willow instead of Layla, though he does feel guilt in them using Layla’s body in the way that they are.

Through an online forum Leeds makes contact with someone who claims to know how to help Willow. Leeds is initially reluctant but when he realises that he can’t continue to allow Willow to use Layla’s body he begins to consider the offer of help.

When full of guilt Leeds tries to leave with Layla, Willow stops them and Leeds starts to see Willow as a threat. Still, he doesn’t want to leave Willow there so he contacts the internet forum man. Layla finds out what is going on with Willow and she reacts badly so Leeds ends up restraining her and keeping her locked in the bedroom while they wait for help to arrive.

When the man arrives Leeds tells him everything and the man has answers for Leeds, Layla and Willow. But even though he has the answer he does not have a solution. That is going to be something that Layla, Leeds and Willow will have to figure out for themselves.

Our Review – ★★★★★

This is a step away from CoHo’s usual style of writing as it’s the first time that she has branched into the paranormal. As always she does an excellent job of drawing the characters, free-spirited Layla and upcoming music star Leeds. There are instant sparks between the couple until the accident that almost cuts their blossoming relationship short. In the aftermath when Layla is changed by the trauma we see that Leeds wants to his best by Layla and his intentions are good when he takes Layla away to where they first met.

The spooky atmosphere is built up well when Willow first starts to make her presence known. That doesn’t make this a scary book though, we learn early on that Willow is not a threat to the couple. She is a confused spirit who doesn’t know why she is there but she is unable to leave. Willow does come across as likable but when Leeds starts to allow Willow to use Layla’s body it does begin to seem as though he doesn’t have Layla’s best intentions at heart. Coupled with the fact that we learn from the start that Leeds has Layla tied up in the building whilst he takes to the paranormal investigator it definitely makes us question his character.

As he continues to grow closer to Willow and wanting to spend more time with her and instead of Layla he becomes even more questionable as a good person. After all, Layla was injured as a result of her connection to Leeds and it begins to seem as though he is abandoning her after the trauma changed her. I do think that this was the intention of the author as when we are dealt a huge plot twist it makes everything more understandable.

In conclusion this was an amazing read and even if paranormal romance isn’t your thing but you like Colleen Hoover’s other books then you will still enjoy Layla.

Detailed Description

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling author. She’s on the brink of financial ruin and her mother has just died of cancer. Then, not long after her mother’s death, Lowen gets a message from her literary agent and ex-boyfriend Corey, who tells her to come to a meeting about a potential job opportunity.

The opening scene is an intense introduction to the story. It begins with a man getting hit by a truck after stepping out onto the road before the lights went red. This happens right in front of the protagonist – Lowen – who ends up covered in blood right before her meeting.

Luckily, the handsome Jeremy helps her to the nearest coffee shop bathroom to clean off the blood. He even gives her the shirt off his back to replace her own ruined shirt. Lowen feels they have a similar sort of vibe – they both just want to be invisible to the world. Which is why she suspects that he feels that his good looks are an inconvenience to him. She’s attracted to him, but he has a wedding ring on his finger. Making him off-limits.

So after cleaning up and talking to Jeremy for a bit, she gives a witness statement to the police and heads over to her meeting. But as it turns out, the meeting is with Jeremy as well. The proposition for Lowen is simple: she just needs to finish off the three remaining books in a series for the author Verity Crawford, who was in a car accident and is unable to write. Verity is Jeremy’s wife and she’s a really famous author.

Understandably, Lowen is unsure that she could live up to Verity’s writing. However Jeremy admits that the reason that they wanted Lowen was because his wife really loved her book Open Ended and that she thinks that Lowen has a similar writing style. Eventually, Lowen agrees, but only under certain conditions: no press, a pen name and a pay out of half a million.

Despite Corey’s objections and suspicions that Jeremy is not to be trusted – after all, his two daughters are dead and his wife was in a car accident – Lowen goes to live with him and his son Crew so she has easy access to his wife’s notes on the books to finish the series.

When Lowen arrives at the Crawford house she is given the use of Verity’s office. And it is there that she discovers an unfinished autobiography titled “So Be It” written by Verity Crawford. In the hopes of gaining a better understanding of Verity, Lowen decides to read it.

After the introduction, the first chapter of Verity’s autobiography begins with: “I sometimes think back on the night I first met Jeremy and wonder, had we not made eye contact would my life still end the same?” It goes on to talk about the romantic meeting and the “saccharine love” of Verity and Jeremy. However, the chapter ends with a chilling line: “Until he discovered the one thing that meant more to him than I did.”

And after the second chapter, another warning is in place: “Darkness ahead.” Accurately describes the autobiography as Lowen dives deeper into the real life and deepest thoughts of Verity and her obsession and infatuation with Jeremy, discovering chilling secrets that could change everything.

Verity is a mind-fuck. It’s dark, creepy, disturbing and twisted. With a bit of romance too.

Verity captures your attention from the very beginning and doesn’t let go. Even from the first chapter, I just needed to keep reading. It was almost impossible to stop. It began very intensely – having a gruesome car accident as the very first scene that brings Jeremy and Lowen together for the first time – and the mystery of Verity’s autobiography kept me hooked.

CoHo’s writing in this book is impeccable. Although it’s a little different to her usual style, the story is extremely clever and it’s almost impossible to predict how it will end. By the time you reach the ending, every theory or idea that you might’ve had will be smashed to pieces. Additionally, the fact that she chose not to end this book all neatly and happily makes it all the more suspenseful and leaves you pondering about Verity for days. 

Verity’s autobiography is a dark, extremely disturbing read for Lowen, leading her to find out the exact circumstances of the tragedies surrounding the married couple.  But amidst finding out chilling secrets about Verity and reading all the details about Jeremy’s relationship with his wife, Lowen starts to develop feelings for Jeremy.   It becomes apparent that Jeremy may be falling for her too.  Even from the the impactful first chapter it is clear that there is chemistry between this couple and with bed-bound Verity very much still haunting the house we watch as they try to deny their feelings. This potential romance makes you connect to the characters even more as they struggle to find love despite everything they have been through.  And as Lowen finds more about the relationship between Jeremy and Verity she wrestles with how much she should tell Jeremy, things that he doesn’t know about his wife.  When circumstances push the melting pot of secrets and lies to the brink it leads us to the explosive conclusion.  But Colleen isn’t done with us yet!  She has to throw us a twist at the end which leaves us wondering what exactly do we believe.

So to sum up, if you love a good and chilling thriller with a dash of romance, this book is exactly what you need to read. So don’t miss out!

Detailed Description:

At first we meet Tate, she is studying for her masters in nursing in San Francisco and only because it’s easier she has arranged to stay with her brother, Corbin, who is a pilot and because of his job, is not often at home.  When she arrives at Corbin’s apartment she finds a drunk guy passed out against the door she needs to get through.  When she contacts Corbin, he established that it is his friend Miles and he asks Tate to let Miles into his apartment.  Reluctantly Tate agrees and she takes the very drunk Miles inside.  Later she finds him, still drunk but in a distraught state, where he is crying and calling her Rachel.

The story is told from two POVs, firstly from Tate in present time and secondly from Miles POV which is set six years in the past.  The first time from Miles’ POV he is still in high school and it is the moment he first meets Rachel and falls instantly in love with her.  The two quickly become a couple and begin to encounter an almost obsessive love.  The two lovers face a lot of difficulty when they discover that Miles’ father and Rachel’s mother are also in a relationship (following the death of Miles mother).  As their father and mother announce that they intend to marry initially Miles and Rachel decide to bring their relationship to an end.  When that proves impossible then the two carry on with their now forbidden love in secret.

When we go back to Tate’s POV it is the next morning and Miles is sober and awake and the two argue.  And despite not wanting to Tate can’t help but find Miles attractive.  As Miles lives across the hall and is best friends with her brother it is impossible to avoid each other.  The mutual attraction ends up leading to a sexual relationship despite Miles’ two rules – Tate can’t know about his past or expect to be in his future.  Miles tells Tate that he cannot ever love again.  Despite Tate not wanting to end up in that kind of relationship she finds she cannot resist Tate and they end up as sexual lovers but not partners.

In the flashbacks we see more of Miles and Rachel’s relationship and these segments are peppered with a sense of foreboding.  Given Miles’ current emotional state it’s apparent that things didn’t end well but when we do find out about Miles’ past it is genuinely tragic.

Tate has fallen hard for Miles and he does treat her badly due to his own emotional scars.  Even though she knows she deserves better she can’t let go.  Can Tate get Miles to open up about his past to save their love, herself and him.

The Review – ★★★★★

As always with Colleen Hoover this was an obsessive fast read that was hard to put down.  I literally consumed the whole book within 24 hours.  It is one of CoHo’s specialities creating intense characters who in turn have intense relationships.  Tate and Miles are no exception to this and their story is a compelling one. 

Miles torment and torture are clear through the pages and I was constantly hoping that he and Tate would find a way through so that he could find happiness again.  The book title is about the ugly side of live.  About the pain and torment that only love can bring when disaster strikes.  The opposite of the beautiful side of love.  So the question that we seek the answer to is that if Miles is willing to risk the ugly side of love again to reach the possibility of the beautiful side of love. We definitely recommend this as a must read!

When we first meet Ryle he is angry. Lily is on a rooftop in Boston where she lives to contemplate the passing of her father but Ryle bursts out, unaware that she is there. Ryle is taking his anger out on a chair until Lily asks him what is wrong. He tells her that he is a neurosurgeon and that he just lost a child patient. The two talk for a while and begin to connect but Ryle tells Lily that he doesn’t do relationships and that he is only interested in a one night stand. That isn’t something that Lily is into so despite the deep physical attraction nothing happens between the couple.

With the death of her father bringing Lily’s thoughts to the past she goes back to read through her childhood journals that she wrote when she was a teenager. This is where we are introduced to a homeless boy who was squatting in an abandoned house behind Lily’s. She realizes that the boy goes to her school. Lily is concerned for his well-being living in a house in the winter with no running water, gas or electricity so she begins to help him.

Back to the present and it is several months later and Lily is living her dream of opening up her own flower shop. Someone comes in and asks for a job. Alyssa and Lily connect and soon become close friends. When Lily injures her ankle in the shop Alyssa calls her brother for help. Lily soon finds out that Alyssa’s brother is in fact Ryle. The two connect again but separate again before anything happens between them.

Lily reads through more of her journals and we learn more about Atlas, the homeless boy, and teenage Lily growing closer. As Lily is reading through her journals there is a knock at the door and Ryle has shown up at her apartment. This is despite him not knowing where she actually lived. He went to her block and knocked on every door until he found hers. Ryle begs Lily to have sex with him, with the promise that he will stop bothering if he does. Despite her reservations Lily agrees because she is physically attracted to him.

Despite Ryle’s no relationship rule he becomes obsessed with Lily and pursues her relentlessly and breaks this rule for her. Everything seems perfect at first to Lily despite the red flags and to her Ryle’s obsessive nature seems romantic.

Through further of Lily’s journal entries we learn more of Lily’s teenage years. We also find how Lily’s father becomes more and more abusive to her mother. And as her mother keeps forgiving him and taking him back Lily grows to hate her father more and more. And she grows more and more closer to Atlas.

Back in present day Lily is having lunch in a restaurant when she comes across Atlas working there after they lost touch as teenagers. Lily is surprised to see him and find that a lot of her old feelings for him haven’t died so for the sake of her and Ryle she decides it best that she avoids Atlas.

As the situation becomes more volatile between Ryle and Lily things escalate and he ends up hitting Lily. Lily is shocked and devastated, Ryle is full of remorse and promises that it will never happen again. Despite Lily’s reservations the couple declare their love for each other and stay together.

The next day when they are at his restaurant, Atlas notices Lily’s bruised face and Ryle’s damaged hand and comes to the correct conclusion. Full of concern Atlas confronts Lily but they are interrupted by Ryle. Atlas ends up hitting Ryle and throwing him out of his restaurant. Ryle accuses Lily of being unfaithful with Atlas but she promises him that she is not.

Later Atlas apologies to Lily for his outburst and gives her his number to call if she ever needs him. This gives Lily reminders of the attachment that the couple used to have when they were teenagers. Ryle ends up finding the number and the couple have another explosive argument. When Ryle goes to leave, Lily follows him and he ends up pushing her down some stairs. Lily is knocked out and when she wakes up Ryle is taking care of her. He then tells her about his brother who died when Ryle accidentally shot him when he was six. He explains as this being the reason to his rages. Lily is torn as she still loves and wants to help Ryle but she is also starting to see comparisons with her own parents abusive relationship.

For the next few days things seem to improve but then Ryle confronts Lily again over her friendship with Atlas. He ends up hurting her physically again and almost raping her. Lily manages to escape and calls Atlas. She is so badly hurt that Atlas takes her to the hospital where she also finds out that she is pregnant.

Lily goes to stay with Atlas for a few days. When she is at work in her flower shop Ryle shows up and tells her that he is going to London for three months. Meanwhile Atlas confesses to Lily that he still has feelings for her but wants to give her space so that she can deal with the many issues she has to confront.

Eventually Lily tells her mother and Alyssa (her friend and Ryle’s sister) about her pregnancy. She was initially reluctant as she was worried they would persuade her to take Ryle back. But they both agree that she is doing the right thing in leaving him.

When Ryle returns from London he learns of the pregnancy. He begs for Lily’s forgiveness and promises to change. Lily says that she won’t make a decision until the birth but agrees to let him act as a father. Right up until the birth Lily is torn between what to do and keeps Ryle at a distance. When she gives birth to a baby girl she realises that she needs to break the cycle and she doesn’t want her daughter to grow up witnessing an abusive relationship as she herself had. So she decides to divorce Ryle and we learn that it ends with us actually refers to Lily and her daughter ending the cycle of abuse.

Almost a year later, having had time to heal, Lily meets up with Atlas and tells him that she is ready to start a relationship with him.

What We Can Expect From It Starts With Us

Not much is known as yet of the plot details or synopsis of It Starts With Us but we do know that the story is going to be told from the viewpoint of Atlas who we met in It Ends With Us.

Atlas features heavily in It Ends With Us. When we first meet him he is a homeless teenager whom Lily helps and then the young couple eventually grow closer and fall in love. The relationship is cut short when Atlas moves away and they lose touch. Nine years later the couple meet again when Lily goes to Atlas’ successful restaurant. When we first meet Kenna she is booking herself accomodation at a cheap apartment block as this is all she can afford. She has just been released from serving a prison sentence for causing the death of her boyfriend, Scotty. Scotty died after she caused an accident when she had been driving over the alcohol limit. After the accident Kenna also abandoned the scene, believing that Scotty was already dead. At the trial it was revealed that it actually took several hours before he died. And that if Kenna had stayed with and called for help then it was likely that he would have survived.

Also, it wasn’t until after his death that she found out that she was pregnant with his child. The child was born whilst she was in prison and custody was granted to the parents of Scotty (the child’s paternal grandparents). Upon her release she is moving back to Scotty’s hometown so that she can be close to her daughter, Diem. Even though she realizes there is little chance that she will be allowed to see her daughter as Scotty’s parents hold her responsible for the death of their son. But Kenna so needs to see the daughter that she only saw for moments at her birth that she is willing to do everything to try.

After arriving in the town Kenna makes her way to where a bookstore used to be and finds that it has been turned into a bar. She goes inside regardless and is served coffee by the owner, Ledger. The two feel a connection and they talk until Kenna leaves. Kenna tells him that her name is Nicole (her middle name) as she knows that people in the town may remember her badly. Later that evening when Kenna goes back to the bar the two connect even more and they end up leaving together. They make out in his truck but before things go too far they are interrupted.

Desperate to get her life back on track for her daughter Kenna applies for any job that she can. Although it proves difficult with her criminal record. She does manage to get a job in a supermarket. Whilst she is working she bumps into Ledger again. Soon Kenna figures out who Ledger is. He is the best friend (that she never met) of Scotty, the boyfriend that she was imprisoned for killing. Once Kenna realsies who Ledger is she is torn between staying away from him and keeping him close. This is both because of her feelings towards him and because of his connection to her daughter.

It doesn’t take long before Ledger also figures out who Kenan is too. Initially he is angry at her, believing that she was using him. Eventually he begins to see how desperate and broken Kenna is. Then he starts to believe it is wrong to keep a mother from her child, despite the fact that is what Scotty’s parents are determined to do. As the situation becomes more impossible with Scotty’s family. It is looking increasingly unlikely that Kenna will ever get to meet Diem Kenna becomes more and more broken. Is Ledger willing or able even to help fix Kenna. As he becomes torn between Kenna and the family of his childhood friend that he has known his whole life.

Our Review – ★★★★★

This is what CoHo is a master at and she has knocked it out of the park yet again. Coleen does an amazing job at depicting Kenna. She is a woman who committed a horrendous crime when she caused the accident and walked away, unwittingly leaving her boyfriend to die. Yet Kenna is so well drawn as a woman haunted by guilt at what she has done and so very broken by it. She is tortured at the past and by never having seen her own daughter. Yet Kenna handles the situation with her daughter well. She holds back and never goes charging in with care not to upset the stable situation that she knows Scotty’s parents have provided for Diem.

Likewise Ledger is portrayed well as a man who clearly has feelings for Kenna and has great sympathy for her plight yet is torn by his loyalty to Scotty’s parents. And ultimately his number one priority is the love and protection he feels towards Diem, a child whose upbringing he has remained greatly involved in.

This is a real emotional rollercoaster as the situation seems hopeless and that there seems to be little chance of a good outcome for Kenna. As always Colleen keeps us hanging on as we hope for a good solution for every well drawn character involved. This is one heart-wrenching must read!

When we first meet Lily Bloom she is in the aftermath of the funeral of her father. But she isn’t sad as she spent her childhood watching him being physically and verbally abusive to her mother. She is actually relieved that he is gone and cannot hurt her mother anymore.

When we first meet Ryle he is angry. Lily is on a rooftop in Boston where she lives to contemplate the passing of her father but Ryle bursts out, unaware that she is there. Ryle is taking his anger out on a chair until Lily asks him what is wrong. He tells her that he is a neurosurgeon and that he just lost a child patient. The two talk for a bit and begin to connect but Ryle tells Lily that he doesn’t do relationships and that he is only interested in a one night stand. That isn’t something that Lily is into so despite the deep physical attraction nothing happens between the couple.

With the death of her father bringing Lily’s thoughts to the past she goes back to read through her childhood journals that she wrote when she was a teenager. This is where we are introduced to a homeless boy who was squatting in an abandoned house behind Lily’s. She realizes that the boy goes to her school. Lily is concerned for his well-being living in a house in the winter with no running water, gas or electricity so she begins to help him.

Back to the present and it is several months later and Lily is living her dream of opening up her own flower shop. Someone comes in and asks for a job. Alyssa and Lily connect and soon become close friends. When Lily injures her ankle in the shop Alyssa calls her brother for help. Lily soon finds out that Alyssa’s brother is in fact Ryle. The two connect again but separate again before anything happens between them.

Lily reads through more of her journals and we learn more about Atlas, the homeless boy, and teenage Lily growing closer. As Lily is reading through her journals there is a knock at the door and Ryle has shown up at her apartment. This is despite him not knowing where she actually lived. He went to her block and knocked on every door until he found hers. Ryle begs Lily to have sex with him, with the promise that he will stop bothering if he does. Despite her reservations Lily agrees because she is physically attracted to him.

Despite Ryle’s no relationship rule he becomes obsessed with Lily and pursues her relentlessly and breaks this rule for her. Everything seems perfect at first to Lily despite the red flags and to her Ryle’s obsessive nature seems romantic.

Through further of Lily’s journal entries we learn more of Lily’s teenage years. We also find how Lily’s father becomes more and more abusive to her mother. And as her mother keeps forgiving him and taking him back Lily grows to hate her father more and more. And she grows more and more closer to Atlas.

Back in present day Lily is having lunch in a restaurant when she comes across Atlas working there after they lost touch as teenagers. Lily is surprised to see him and find that a lot of her old feelings for him haven’t died so for the sake of her and Ryle she decides it best that she avoids Atlas.

Then a shocking incidence happens with Ryle and it leaves Lily to question everything. Ryle is full of remorse and promises that it will never happen again. The couple stay together but Ryle’s anger issues threaten everything. Lily begins to see glimmers of her father in Ryle and herself in her mother. She tries to remain strong but can she stop history repeating itself?

Our Review – ★★★★★

This book was so very well written and the depth that it reaches clearly shows that this is something that Colleen has established first hand. Which she establishes in the author comments at the end that it is her parents relationship reflected in Ryle and Lily. It was hard to put down and a fast read. This is a very sensitive topic and it was handled with care whilst showing that everything in these situations isn’t always black and white. And whilst we route for Lily to make the right decision the author makes it clear it isn’t an easy one. We recommend this as a must read!

Regretting You is written from the perspective of two characters, Morgan and her teenage daughter Clara. In the introduction we are introduced to Morgan as a teenager, she has a steady boyfriend, Chris and her sister Jenny is dating Chris’s friend, Jonah. The two couples spend a lot of time hanging out together and although Morgan and Chris are happy together, Morgan can’t help but feel there is a spark missing. A spark that she only seems to find when she locks eyes with Jonah, someone who is forbidden as he is her sister’s boyfriend and her boyfriend’s best friend. Things change rapidly for Morgan though when she discovers her period is late and that she is pregnant at 16.

We then fast forward to when Clara, Morgan’s daughter, is 16, almost 17. Chris and Morgan stayed together after she became pregnant, married and have raised Clara together. Jenny is still very much involved in their lives and is a confidant to Clara. Jonah is only recently back on the scene after quickly moving away after Morgan discovered she was pregnant. Jonah and Jenny are back together and they have a small baby together, Elijah.

Clara is doing well in school and she has aspirations to become an actor, a dream her mother very much opposes. Morgan thinks that Clara should study a more practical degree in college so that she has something to fall back on if acting doesn’t work out. Clara also has a crush on a boy in her school, Miller. But for reasons that she doesn’t understand he seems to be avoiding her and as he also already has a girlfriend he is off limits.

Morgan is happy enough in her life but she does sometimes feel that she lives for everyone else and not herself. She didn’t go further in her education after having a baby and she has never pursued a career, instead becoming a housewife and looking after her family.

When Miller splits up with his girlfriend and Clara begins to spend more time with him, her father forbids it , as Miller’s father has a bad reputation. Clara already begins to rebel against this and conflicts arise.

Suddenly everyone’s lives change when a tragedy strikes involving Chris and Jenny. In the aftermath Morgan realises that she will need to start living for herself. But as secrets become unearthed Morgan will end up questioning everything she knew about her life and the people in it. The reverberations of the secrets rock Morgan and Jonah’s lives as they grapple to come to terms with the unthinkable truth.

Morgan does her best to protect Clara from the truth but this pushes the two further apart. And as Clara moves to seek solace from Miller further conflict sparks as Morgan is determined that her daughter won’t make the same mistakes that she did. In the midst of the turmoil the only person that Morgan can turn to is the person that she feels she shouldn’t turn to as she tries to deny the attraction she has always felt to someone forbidden.

Secrets and teenage rebellion drive mother and daughter further and further apart as Clara’s life threatens to go off the rails. Is there anything that can save thier relationships and indeed themselves?

The Review – ★★★★✩

Regretting You was a very fast read, despite being 365 pages long it seemed to zoom by. As the story is told from the viewpoint of both Morgan and teenage Clara at points it can seem a little young adult from Clara’s viewpoint but the Morgan chapters save the book from being fully YA if that isn’t your thing. At it’s core this is a book about a mother and daughter relationship and it is very relatable story. Expanding on from the mother/daughter dynamic it is also a story about young first love and missed opportunities. About what could have happened and what other possibilities there are. This was definitely an engrossing, emotional read. It keeps you well invested in the outcome as things fall further and further apart for Morgan and Clara. We would definitely recommend this title as a must read!
